Time of Music ended on Sunday

14. July 2009
The 27th Time of Music ended on Sunday. The final concert of Improvisation workshop included John Cage’s “Five” and Christian Wolff’s “Metal & Breath”, along with students’ improvised pieces.

The final concert of the festival was held at the school centre, where ConTempo, a string quartet playing Irish contemporary music, performed. The quartet had its first appearance in Finland in a concert, which had atmosphere ranging from Donnacha Dennehy’s fizzing “Pushpulling” to John McLachlans “Lament”, which was archaic and even a bit sad concidering the theme. The whole repertoire of the concert was very considered entirety, and ConTempo’s performance was unquestionably one of the highlights in the festival, regardless of the little amount of viewers.

Also, 22-Pistepirkko appeared as a “sideshow” in Pihkuri on Sunday evening. The warmth of the show drew the listeners on a dance mode, and that along the generous one-and-a-half hour concert compensated for the small audience.
