18. April 2010
The main themes of the festival are voice, e.g. choir music, and electroacoustic music. Esteemed Tokyo Philharmonic Chorus visit Finland for the first time while popular Finnish male choir Seminaarimäen mieslaulajat represent the theme at the other extreme. Helsinki Chamber Choir come back after two years with Nils Schweckendiek as a conductor. Paavali Jumppanen who is one of our top pianists will perform at the opening concert. New domestic line-up defunensemble consists of e.g. harpist Lily-Marlene Puusepp and flutist Hanna Kinnunen, also known from Uusinta ensemble. The guest composer of this summer is Italian-French Marco Stroppa, he will also teach at composition course. There will be other courses, workshops and meeting points as well, including improvisation course and panel discussion on choir music. Young musicians will get involved with Minna Leinonen’s IRTI! project which encourages music pupils and students to play together using modern music methods rather than concentrating on sheet music.
Premiers, creativity in nature, meetings and discussions will be all in the program, conducted or not. Time of Music will spread all around Viitasaari using old venues and introducing new concert premises, not forgetting the surrounding nature.
The artistic director of the festival is composer Perttu Haapanen.
