Six premières in Time of Music

Altogether six premières will be heard in this year’s Time of Music. defunensemble will perform two premières in two different concerts. On Wednesday July 7th they will play Ville Raasakka’s “Erinnerung”, in which the composer has combined traditional insturuments to electronic music, and Maija Hynninen’s piece “Orlando-fragments” on Thursday July 8th with mezzo-soprano Jutta Seppinen. Raasakka’s piece is commissioned by the festival, whereas Hynninen’s piece is commissioned by the Finnish Broadcasting Company.Ears Open –society will hold their première of “Kaikki pelissä” late in the evening of Thursday July 8th. Sampo Haapamäki’s “Maailmamaa”, commissioned and performed by Helsinki Chamber Choir, will be heard in the evening of Friday July 9th. The choir will be conducted by Nils Schweckendiek.
On Saturday July 10th, the German-Icelandic Ensemble Adapter will have up to two premières: “Landscape with Deserted House” by Benjamin Schweitzer and ”Draumbót” by Guðmundur S. Gunnarsson.
The themes of this year’s festival, vocal and electroacustic music will be seen and heard in every première. Vocal expressions will also be heard spoken on Friday afternoon’s concert in Tervamäki chapel in Suovanlahti. Cellist Juho Laitinen among others will improvise with actor Jussi Lehtonen based on Shakespeare’s most famous play “Romeo and Juliet”.
