Time of Music starts tomorrow
5. July 2010
The opening concert of Time of Music on Tuesday, July 6th in the church is also the beginning of the festival week, which lasts until Sunday. The themes of the festival are voice and choir music as well as electroacustic music. These themes are brought to the audience by e.g. Tokyo Philharmonic Chorus and Helsingin kamarikuoro (HKK). The guest composer this year is Italian-french Marco Stroppa. His pieces will be performed by ensembles such as the French TM , the new finnish line-up defunensemble and HKK with Nils Schweckendiek as their conductor. Also soloists such as cellist Markus Hohti and Paavali Jumppanen present Stroppa’s pieces.
Altogether six premières will be heard at the festival, of which two pieces will be performed by the German-Islandic Ensemble Adapter on Saturday July 10th. Composer Jarkko Hartikainen will present classics of contemporary music every day at the theatre. On Saturday a seminar on modern choral music will be held with festival’s artistic director Perttu Haapanen, Chifuru Matsubara and Nils Schweckendiek as the speakers.
