Time of Music started again

A cross-section of the themes of this year’s festival, voice expressions and electroacustics, were heard in the opening concert of Time of Music on Tuesday July 6th. Among others Paavali Jumppanen performed Pierre Boulez’s intricate “Piano Sonata No. 2”, which Jumppanen has been practising for ten years.

The attendance in the Opening Concert was a bit bigger than last year.

defunensemble1 –concert on Wednesday July 7th had many different electroacustic elements in each piece, and among others Ville Raasakka’s composition “Erinnerung”, commissioned by the festival. The concert of TM in the evening was harmonious and balanced as a whole. The French ensemble, which visits in Finland infrequently, performed e.g. Marco Stroppa’s pieces ”Nous sommes l’air, pas la terre” and ”Ossia, Seven Strophes for a Literary Drone”. Riikka Talvitie’s work “Back to Square one”, commissioned by the Finnish Broadcasting Company (YLE) was presented in the last concert of the day.
